I have heard very unique answers when I ask people who are not vegetarian by birth, what made them change to it? I mean even if one is by birth vegetarian, I know some who can comfortably convert to non vegetarian. Like for example, I am not religious, I am not a preacher against animal cruelty (as in i believe that the food chain is nature-made and there's no harm in one animal eating another) but i prefer staying vegetarian cos I just cannot eat meat! I really donno what reason I should give when someone asks me why! What's your story?

My grandparents are pure vegetarians yes but with my dad moving out of India - he became non vegetarian and it continues with our family. I also remember appa telling he started having non vegetarian when he was 20 odd years or so. Though I don't mind eating vegetarian food the body system has now completely adapted to non vegetarian (don't eat sea food as I am allergic). This is the opposite end of the spectrum!

Born into a Malayali Syrian Christian family and being the only ‘shakahari’ as my ammachy calls me, is tough, till date. I was 16 when I stopped eating non-veg. I am neither an animal-lover nor enamored by organized religion.
I had started reading articles by PFA in Young World paper. Reading about how brutally animals were treated- clipped mouth, huddles in small spaces, veal (calves are taken from their mothers one or two days after birth), I decided to stop eating. It just didn’t feel right to eat something which didn’t want to be eaten. The weaning away started gradually, checking my willpower if I could leave NV and not to shock my parents too. It worked and after sometime I didn’t feel the need to eat NV anymore. It’s been 15 years now and I think it’s still a decision I am happy to have chosen.
If you wanna read all the funny stuff people tell me when they know i am a vegetarian, inspite of being a mallu-christian, read the longer unedited reply at my blog (didnt wanna cram your page ;) ) http://carpediemwithme.blogspot.in/2013/09/required.html
The reason as to why I am a vegetarian, is that it resonates within. No other reason is required, for me.

I think in today's world its more healthier to be a vegetarian mostly and occasionally indulge in some Eggs and white meat - purely from the health perspective - given our serene lifestyle. I guess most of the other perspective varies depending on one's belief and values.

Dear Sir,
Greetings from Indo Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry!
As you are aware we are the trade promotion body and we facilitate and promote trade between Italy and India. We come under the umbrella of the Italian Embassy.
As part of our promotional activity, currently we are working on a project called Ospitalita Italiana supported by Unioncamere, Italy. Which is about Italian cuisines which has always been an important tool for the promotion of Italy and has effectively promoted not only Italian products but also the Italian economy and culture the world over. Italian cuisine is appreciated by Indians and local restaurants serving it are often preferred destinations for a fine dining experience. Thus restaurants have a significant role to play in this promotional exercise and thus it is required that those serving authentic Italian cuisine are recognized.
As part of this activity we are conducting an online survey to understand the food habits of Indians and as well as their familiarity towards Italian food. We kindly request you to take up this survey and provide your valuable feedback.
