Big Sip Smoothie and Juice bar – Review A slew of fruit juice lounges sprouting all over the city has really made me (and some of my buddies too) take interest in checking each one of them out. The recent one we went to was Big Sip, which is right at the beginning of Dr Nair Road in T. Nagar, and I must admit, it was quite a refreshing experience. To start with, the interiors, a heady mix of red and yellow, are really eye-catching. And in tune with the shop’s name, the mascot they’ve chosen is an elephant. The menu is quite exhaustive –usual suspects come under fruit juices, milkshakes and smoothies, while the more interesting ones come under mocktails, cookie shakes, yogurt shakes and their Big Sip specials. Some of them had whacky as well as catchy names – Holy fruit shock (a combo of citrus fruits), Black jack (black current), Wolverine’s special (apple and dry fruits), Grapple (no surprises there – grapes and apple), A good break (made from chunks of Kit Kat) Royal cartel, Green pomelo and so on. Among the ones that we tried out, Carribean (pomegranate and pineapple), Elixir (strawberry, pomegranate and watermelon), But Kit (butterscotch and chocolate crunches) and Tobleron shake stood out. While the Carribean and Elixir were very refreshing, the other two were creamy, thick and quite filling. Tobleron shake is a must-have for die-fans of the famous chocolate bar. The other shakes we liked were Black jack, Archie’s special (a cheeky reference for another famous juice shop’s speciality), Wolverine’s special and Cookie bliss (with small chucks of floating choco-chip cookies that made the shake even better). And true to the owners claims, the papaya and musk melon juices were so thick that the straw stood planted when dipped in those juices. On the downside, we weren’t particularly happy with the yogurt shakes. We drank the Kiwi yogurt and the dry fruit yogurt shakes, and found both to be a tad bit sour for our liking (although the owners stated that they have a set of customers who dedicatedly visit their premises just for the yogurt shakes). It was probably the fruit, or the yogurt (or both) that made it so. While the shop’s name might be Big Sip, the serving quantity is only a bit bigger than what we get in other similar juice bars. They do, however, have something known as a Jumbo Sip – fresh fruit juices that come in a big jar which serves up to 5 (a juice shops’ equivalent of a beer pitcher) – which is very economical if you are a juice guzzler. They even had ice-cream and fruits based desserts, but we were too full to try it out. The pricing is reasonable, with mocktails in the range of Rs.50-80 and shakes in the range of Rs.70 to 100 (except the Tobleron shake, which I felt is a bit over-priced at Rs.150). On the whole, given Big Sip’s location, quality, pricing and the experience, it’s definitely a must try and would give a Big thumbs up to the place. PS: If you have friends who have a tank of a stomach, ask them to check out their Gulp The Pulp contest. ;)

Neat and small place, pretty decor. Service is very impressive. Ihave ordered here twice, once beetroot juice and once a watermelon and apple combo, all were good. The only negative is there is an extensive menu to tempt you but most of them are unavailable, its very disappointing. Maybe I shud try out the Nandanam outlet to avoid this?
