Tried the north indian proper this time in HSB usually am a lil apprehensve to try out these in south indian restaurant esp HSB is a lil spicy for my liking. So we went for the Kashmiri naan hoping its like Peshwari naan, it was very different with huge chunks of fruits on top but nevertheless not bad although not even close to what we have in proper NWF places. The phulkas were very soft and amazing. The Malai kofta was okay too no complains. Paneer Pakoda deserves a mention, yumm!

OMG love the tamilnadu meals by HSB. Its perfect whn you need a full fledged south indian meal, usually their north indian gravies are too spicy for my liking but this is perfect. I love the cabbage or beetrot curry and the brinjal kootu is one of hte best i have had. They even have thogayal. You wud be spoilt for choice, do start with the fluffy and awesome pooris. Very good quality and tasty food, now the prices are slashed too!

Regularly home delivered HSB food from Ashok Nagar HSB - our usuals are idiappam (love the white kurma that comes with it), appam, north indian (punjabi thali), saravana special meals, chilli parata, paraota kurma, of course idli and ghee roast. Tried to get some pics this time.

Tried the new Weekend Buffet at Hotel Saravanan Bhavan ( #HSB) yesterday in Mylapore and the day before yesterday in Anna Nagar. I must really say HSB has now hit on something VFM ! This is the Menu Spread for the buffet: 1 Welcome Drink 2 varieties of Soups 3 varieties of starters(One of them will mostly be based on Vada) Tandoori Roti Plain Naan 2 varieties of Indian Gravies 2 varieties of Chinese Gravies 1 Biriyani 1 Fried Rice 1 Noodles Pizza(On order) Poriyal Sambar Rasam Plain Rice Curd Rice 3 varieties of Salads Papads Appalams Vadagams Pickles Raita Bread Variety with Butter Idly(On order) Dosai(On order) Uthappam(On order) Assorted Sweets Assorted Pastries(Some 2 - 3 varieties of them) Ice Cream Coffee(On order) Tea(On order) Cost for the Buffer: Rs. 300 per person VFM: Totally! Ofc it's an unlimited buffet, so it's total VFM Taste: As is the general standard by HSB, the overall Buffet rocked in taste. My View: It's a great move by HSB now,in their attempt to set straight their falling standards. This is the usual HSB Food delivered at a lower cost. And being mostly self-service(Except for Welcome Drinks, Soups and the On Order items, which are served on the table), there's no question of poor or rude service here. In other words, it's worth every paisa of the Rs.300 we are shelling out. Only sad thing is it's only a Weekend Buffet and is subject to availability of the Party halls. If someone books the HSB Party halls for the weekend, then the buffet is not available on that particular branch. I went there both days and was totally satisfied with it both the times(except for a minor flaw yesterday, where the Naan was little too cold and rubbery. They were ready to replace it, but me and my friend were almost full, so said no thanks). My friend particularly enjoyed the Dal yesterday. And I enjoyed my favorite Paneer Tikka. Rangoli at Pondy Bazaar I definitely want to start this review quoting that this is by far the best rajasthani food i have had in the city of chennai including rajdhani. I have not yet tried annapoorna dhaba or something I have heard of in anna nagar though, Well no wonder it is from THE Saravana Bhavan, but surprisingly it aint authentic south indian food but tis authentic rajasthani/gujarati food! Precaution: DO NOT EAT the entire day or if possible the day b4 too, so u have enough space to eat the entire thali. It is unbelievable that sucha high quality tasty fine dining experience at sucha restaurant would be so nominally priced especially cos its hsb known for its limited quantities and extra rupees!! Coming to the food, dont hog on the starters. Beware! There is hella lota stuff comin from the kitchen served hot and yummy by the waiter with so much care as you would treat a guest at a wedding. But yes the starters are the yummiest of all especially the Veg roll and the Dhokla (irresisable)! The jal jeera with boondi is gr8 too. The Thali has chapathi, poli, some 4 to 5 variety of side dishes like paneer butter masala, mixed dal gravy, a special sweet rajasthani gravy(which is too good). kesari, srikand, pickles(not the usual boring ones), and a lot more i cant remember now! Then comes hot hot puris, the dal kichdi and biriyani. After all this the waiter asks you if you need white rice for your curd (btw curd is too good dont miss it). Finally you get a pan too. But trust me, it is too hard to stop eating. Nobody can not be stuffed with this meal not just because of the quantity but also the quality. Man! I can keep on writing let me stop here! The thali is also available in Mylapore and some other HS outlets but then its an experience in itself having it in the specialty restaurant. Service is impeccabe.

Can close my eyes and say, its HSB! This is the Ashok Nagar HSB, i guess the first of the saravana bhavans in the city or atleast one of the first ones that started cos the class is apparent in it! The downstairs as in any south indian restaurant is non ac and u can have juices and fast food items here. I've tried the cakes and the juices, perfect quality as expected. They even have sweets and a bakery here. The a/c dining in the first floor is very nice with a class of service and ambiance. The food is yummy, no doubts its HSB! My favorites are paneer biryani (must try), poori, the 5-idlis (so soft, cant find it newhere else except hsb), chilli parata, ofcourse the fresh juices and rose milk. The icecreams and esp the kulfi is great here! To experience class in south indian food, vast menu and food so tasty u ll wanna try it all, anytime hsb in the best and this is one of the best ambiances u can find in all the hsb's in the city! i dono y ratna cafe and murugan idli shop are even compared! They are so dirty and horrible in service, the taste of food depends on ur luck, no consistency that is! Mayb a few sangeethas can come close in quality and barring ID to be serving a different class of customers.. nothin can beat HSB!

Went with my girl and mom yesterday here. Though it was a busy time, we were able to get a table immediately. We ordered a soup, two starters(a tikka and a roll), a salad, one bhaingan bartha, couple of phulkas and couple of naans. With my previous experiences I was expecting to get the food after 30 minutes. Therefore, I was surprised when I got the soup in 5 mins. Within 5 mins from that a starter arrived. We finish it the next one comes. And this continued till the end. Only the salad was delayed but then it had so many ingredients in it that it's a meal by itself. After that we ordered a ice cream and 2 sundaes, which arrived in the next 5 mins. In the end, the bill arrived, which was considerably nominal considering the amount of food we had consumed. Except for the first 5 mins for the soup to arrive, and the last 5 mins for the ice cream, we never had to wait. Now for the marks, Ambience : 7/10 Service: 8/10 Food: 9/10 Cost: 8/10 Overall: 8.5/10 Would i recommend it? Yes I'll definitely recommend it to my friends and family!
